"In this race, I'm not rushing to the finish line because there isn't one. There are no medals or trophies to earn, no accolades, no cheering.  There is only the deep satisfaction of another day lived, another day with the people I love."

Wow....I mean, wow.

The author, Barbara K Lipska, discusses her decent into madness, and her climb out of it.  She is an acclaimed Neuroscientist who spent years studying mental illness, in particular schizophrenia.  After some alarming changes in her behavior that concerned her family and colleagues, it was discovered she had metastatic melanoma in her brain.  Although her decent into madness only lasted about 8 weeks, she is able to recall and explain the changes in her behavior, the feelings of confusion and the effects it had on the people closest to her. I have always been amazed by the human brain, especially mental illness. Barbara explains it beautifully.  She also dives into the science behind it which was fascinating.  There was a great balance of emotion and science in this book.  Although this was an audio book, I do not regret it. The narrator's accent was charming and the tone of her voice really kept me interested. I highly recommend this one.
