"When a father goes missing, his family's desperate search leads them to question everything they know about him and one another..." Goodreads
I selected this through the Book of the Month Club. I've wanted to read this one for a while and was really looking forward to getting to it. I moved it up the TBR ladder even. The story line is intriguing. I mean, who doesn't like a missing person's case? The writing is smart and detailed with interesting characters. Throughout the book, there are footnotes giving even more detail to different topics within the book so that was an interesting touch. Overall this was an amusing and smart, thoughtful story.
But... I just couldn't get into it. I liked the first 3/4 of the book. My mid-review was 4 stars. But by the last quarter, I was struggling. I even skimmed and sped read most of that portion. The amount of detail and over explaining left me feeling a little bored. I desperately wanted to get to the ending, to know what happens so I pushed through but it was tough. I ended up feeling like this was less of an escape to read and more of a chore.
